The Michigan Chapter of NASF was established in 2014 as a merged group of members from the Michigan Association of Metal Finishers in Detroit, and the Grand Rapids Chapter of NASF. The history of the two groups is one of established and active members dating back nearly 100 years. The Grand Rapids group got its start in 1918, when the Grand Rapids Branch of the American Electroplaters and Surface Finishers Society (AESF), was formed.
In Detroit the Michigan Association of Metal Finishers was established in 1947. MAMF was comprised of management executives in the surface finishing industry, and was an affiliate of the National Association of Metal Finishing.
At the national level, the American Electroplaters and Surface Finishers Society (AESF), The National Association of Metal Finishers (NAMF), and the Metal Finishing Suppliers’ Association joined forces to become the National Association for Surface Finishing (NASF). The success of this merger led to the decision of the GRNASF and the MAMF to join forces to become one Chapter – one voice for the surface finishing industry in Michigan.
Both the GRNASF and the MAMF, since their beginnings, served their members continually until 2014, when the groups decided to merge and form the Michigan Chapter of National Association for Surface Finishing.
The Association serves the common business interest of those engaged in the surface finishing industry in Michigan. We seek to grow our membership and maintain our current membership, by offering relevant and interesting topics and speakers at our events. We want members to be involved, informed and engaged!
